Getting Around Villa Del Mar

Layout of Villa Del Mar

Upon arrival at Villa Del Mar you will find a keypad for entry on most external doors (Main House entrance noted with black arrow). All main entry doors on the property have a keypad and the codes are provided to you 24 hours before check-in. You will find two suites in the main house- Suite One (considered the primary with the outdoor shower) and Suite two downstairs. Outside the front door to the left, you will find two suites with external entrances with keypad doors on each suite - Suite three is upstairs and Suite four is downstairs. The apartment is accessed by going down the stairs to the left of the suite ‘tower’ (Red arrow), the first staircase from parking lot. Downstairs you will find a large one bedroom apartment.

Pool Toys, Beach needs & Various items

You can find beach chairs, floats, noodles, and sand toys under the outdoor stairs. Feel free to use them and put them back when you're done. If anything gets damaged, please let us know. We understand things wear out or get rusty. You won't be charged for missing beach gear, but we'd appreciate knowing if something needs replacing for the next guests.

A photo to location of beach and pool items is located below.

An outdoor cornhole game is located in the downstairs bedroom closet in main house in a black case. This can be set up on the back patio or parking area. Please use at your discretion, but do not leave outdoors overnight or in the rain to avoid wood rot.

Games, puzzles and cards are located in the media console below the TV in main house. A take and leave book library is on the left side of the media console.

Water!

St. Thomas is surrounded by water, but getting clean water is hard. Villa Del Mar doesn't get water from the city/government. Our main sources are rain or delivered by truck. We store water in cisterns under the Villa and clean it with a filtration and UV system. The Villa's water is safe to drink.

  • We ask that you limit shower time and turn off water when not actively using, such as brushing teeth.

  • The Dishwasher is the most efficient manner to clean dishes, other than pots&pans and coolers that are not dishwasher safe.

  • We remotely monitor our cistern levels to ensure your party has plenty of water for your stay. Excessive water usage can result in additional fees. If water runs out, it may take up to 48 hours for water to be delivered. Please conserve.

  • Please note!  The pool fountain does not turn on. We were losing considerable water from the fountain feature, therefore it was disabled. If the pool is low, please turn the dial knob for the pool fountain in the home to fill the pool. There is a secondary filling source to fill the pool.

  • Villa Del Mar is on a septic system. No items other than toilet tissue can be flushed.

We thank you for your diligent conservation of our precious resource, water.

USING THE A/C

The Great room has three individual A/C units. The remote for the units are located on the coffee table. Each Bedroom has its own individual A/C unit per room. The remote can be found on the bedside table. Electricity on St. Thomas is more than 400% the cost of electricity in mainland US. We ask that you please conserve A/C usage to help keep costs and rental fees lower. Please turn off A/C units when not in the bedroom, turn off Great Room A/C when you go to bed or leave the Villa. Bedrooms will cool down within 10 minutes once A/C is turned on. Please do not set A/C units lower than 70 degrees or unit may freeze requiring service and this can take a day or so to arrange. We thank you for your diligence is conserving electricity on our beautiful island.

Bugs and Wildlife

Villa Del Mar receives pest control treatment throughout the entire villa regularly. However, we are surrounded by lush vegetation and bugs/wildlife live there. Sometimes they try and enjoy the villa as well. You may encounter a few unwanted guests in the home. Thankfully, they are dying/dead due to treatments.

The Island is home to native wild deer, iguanas, mongoose, donkeys, bats and many types of lizards, birds, vermin and insects. Finding Deer scat and iguana droppings on the property is common, and we do our best to clean up after them between guests.

We provide two outdoor trash cans in the parking area. ALL trash is to be contained in the trash cans. Trash left outside of the cans will become food for the local wildlife. If the bins do fill during your stay, please contact us for removal or take the trash to the VIWMA site located outside the main Mahogany Run gate to the left.

Lately, An iguana (Iggy) has seemed to taken up residence in the bushes above Del Mar. Iggy is likely dining on the papaya’s that fall from the trees above the property as well as our various fruit trees in the area. Iguanas are vegetarians and Iggy may be found lounging on furniture on back terrace. If you see Iggy, we ask you do not engage or harass. Iggy is harmless if left alone and will typically hide/run when encountered.

We apologize for any uninvited guests. They seem to love Villa Del Mar as much as we do.

Masks and Snorkles

Masks and snorkles are in a plastic bin in laundry room. Please rinse before and after each use and replace back in to the plastic bin when done.

Please do not leave them in outdoor storage as they are prone to rot in the elements.

Glass in Pool

Glassware is for indoor use only. Use the provided plastic glassware, dishes and insulated tumblers outside by the pool. Please note that any broken glass found in the pool will result in a $2,000 charge to drain the pool, clean, and replace the water.
